Muskegon marketing firm’s $90,000 Giving Tuesday initiative helps put Kalamazoo nonprofit ‘on the map’

Revel used a 24-hour marketing marathon to create a free, comprehensive marketing campaign for Girls Build Kalamazoo

The 13-person team at marketing firm Revel in Muskegon has recovered and moved on from hosting its 24-hour marketing marathon on Giving Tuesday, but the founder of Girls Build Kalamazoo is still in awe of what was gifted to her nonprofit: a comprehensive marketing campaign valued at $90,000.

Called “Good Tuesday,” the event had all of Revel’s team assemble in its downtown Muskegon office from 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, through 9 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, to execute a comprehensive marketing plan free of charge for Girls Build Kalamazoo, which was chosen from a pool of applicants.

“My heart is filled with gratitude. Revel has officially put Girls Build Kalamazoo on the map!” said Twala Lockett-Jones, the founder of Girls Build Kalamazoo. “I have no words to describe the tremendous impact the marketing makeover has already made and will continue to make on the future of Girls Build Kalamazoo! The reaction from staff and our girls to our new logo, new website, electronic billboard, and all the additional marketing materials was epic!”

Revel, founded on the principle of doing good work for its people, customers, and community, used Good Tuesday as its way of bringing the mantra to life.

“Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of our team, the clients we serve, and the communities where we do business,” said Revel partner and chief executive officer Jason Piasecki. “This initiative encompassed all three of those aspects. We’re excited to see the impact our campaign will have on Girls Build Kalamazoo.”

Fueled by caffeine, donated food, and even stress-relief activities such as Polka dancing, ergonomic stretches, and axe-throwing, the 13-person Revel team, along with 3 contractors, executed the start-to-finish marketing campaign with the 24-hour time crunch. Upon conclusion of the 24-hour period, Revel presented the campaign to Lockett-Jones and some of the girls who benefit from the program.

The pro bono work was valued at $80,000, with an additional $10,000 in donations from area businesses and individuals. (see full list below)

The experience was also impactful for Revel team members, who went from knowing nothing about Girls Build Kalamazoo to sharing tears of joy with Lockett-Jones at the conclusion of the experience.

“Everything about this experience was so inspiring and energizing,” said Kayla Slager, Revel Account Manager. “The sincere appreciation and awe we received when we presented our work to Twala, and the girls reminded us all why what we do really matters! To be able to amplify the awareness of such a great organization and know the work we put in will allow Girls Build Kalamazoo to grow and impact so many more young women for years to come left us all with an immense sense of pride. Girls Build Kalamazoo left a lasting impression on our hearts, and we look forward to watching their continued success!”

“Amazing is the first word that comes to my mind when I think about everything the Revel team accomplished on Good Tuesday,” said Tracey Piasecki, Revel Traffic Manager. “We came together and delivered an award-winning marketing campaign for Girls Build Kalamazoo in just 24 hours. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room during the presentation. The memory of how the client reacted to our work was something I will never forget. I can’t wait to hear how the campaign helps them continue to grow and give young women the support, guidance, and encouragement for their success and happiness in the future.”

The entire race-against-the-clock experience was documented on social media and is archived on the Revel website.
