5 Tips to Ensure Your Videos are Actually Viewed

Using video in your marketing is a great way to engage consumers and persuade them to act. You’ve seen the stats – they’re impossible to ignore! The fact is, video is a huge marketing tool and should be a part of every marketing plan. However, you can’t just throw any old video up on your website and expect to see results.

Think about sitting through a co-worker’s vacation movies or having to feign interest in a 45-minute video of someone’s kid playing the recorder. That’s not engaging, that’s torturous, and if given the choice, you’d pass, right? Well, you don’t want your potential customer to simply pass up what you’ve got to share, so before you start dreaming of going viral, back up a bit and follow these tips to make your video appealing enough for viewers to, well, view it.

  1. Keep it short but sweet.

You’ve got mere seconds to capture your audience and keep their interest (rather than suppressing a yawn, or worse, moving on!)

  2. Make your message clear and concise.

A single focus will get your point across quickly and avoid confusion.

  3. Don’t forget to reinforce your brand!

You don’t just want people to see the video, you want them to associate it with you, too! Use your logo, your colors, and your “voice” to get your brand across loud and clear.

  4. Remember your audience.

Make sure the video is relevant to the customers you want to attract, then post it in places those customers frequent most. Think beyond your website – use social media and maybe even embed it in an email.

  5. Optimize it!

Yep, what’s written on your website isn’t the only thing search engines look at – videos need to be optimized too, if you want them to show up in results (which, by the way, is the first step to actually getting results)! To do this, you need to use key search terms your customers are using and incorporate them into your title, description, captions, and tags.

Okay, now you’re ready to roll (see what we did there?)
